🎉 We are excited to share that our director’s new article 📰 “Automated measurement of serrated chip characteristics using image processing algorithms” has been published in The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, Springer Nature.
In this work, the authors propose an automated image-processing method for analysing serrated chip features generated during orthogonal cutting of the Ti6Al4V alloy. The results open the door for faster, more objective characterisation of chip morphology, which has implications for machining simulation validation, process monitoring and material behaviour analysis.
We are proud to have collaborated with Victor Laügt and Madalina CALAMAZ from ENSEIRB-MATMECA / Arts et Métiers – École Nationale Supérieure d’Arts et Métiers at our home institution Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu.
The journey from manual annotation to automated measurement has been difficult 🤷, but rewarding 💡, as Victor was an intern at the ACAPS Research Center, during the summer of 2024 🌞.
