Our Center addresses intersectoral and cross-sectoral issues of interest for rural areas with all the attributes that define it starting from the traditional knowledge defined in the Convention on Biological Diversity art. 8j and associated with agricultural practices, the management of genetic resources for food to the research of integrated management in agriculture to support food security and safety. The connotations of the social and cultural dimension are both essential for redefining the rural space, in order to develop the best research methods in the field, the best methods to integrate research results in the hilly-mountainous areas of Sibiu County and beyond.

In the field of basic research Chemistry there is a functional laboratory Environmental Chemistry with 5 publications listed ISI including in the red zone in the period 2014-2018. In addition, at least 20 other ISI indexed articles are published. In the category of applied sciences, the Center has publications in the field of Environment: 8 articles rated ISI and 14 indexed. These are managed by the Environmental Chemistry Laboratory.

In the field of basic research, Applied Life Sciences and Biotechnology, 3 ISI-rated articles and 6 ISI-indexed articles were published. In this sense, the Plant Biotechnology Laboratory operates, which also carries out applied research in the field of Biotechnology, where 5 ISI-listed articles were published in the dedicated journal.

In the field of basic research Social and Economic Sciences, the members of the Center published 2 ISI-rated articles and 5 ISI-indexed articles. In this sense, in the category of applied sciences Socio-economic and humanistic research were published at least 42 ISI indexed articles, brochures and books, relevant for the rural area. The Laboratory for the conservation and sustainable use of agrobiodiversity has such concerns. Also, in this sense, we mention among the preoccupations of the laboratory as fundamental research Biology and ecology, publishing at least 4 ISI listed articles, including in the yellow zone and 25 ISI indexed works all relevant on agrobiodiversity.

In the category of applied sciences Agriculture, food safety and security, the Center has the most ISI indexed publications applications: 81 articles. There are two laboratories that excel at working in this field: the Research Laboratory in the field of agricultural practices and management and the Research Laboratory in the field of animal husbandry and agritourism. It works in conjunction with the Research Laboratory on the certification of food raw materials and renewable energy.
